MARENGO — Freddie “Fred” Griffith, 76 of Marengo, died Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2012, at Centerburg Pointe in Centerburg surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Buchanan County, Va., to the late Herman N. and Frances E. (Underwood) Griffith. He attended Sparta High School and was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church. He was a Korean conflict U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Fred loved his family and the time spent with them. Fred liked to hunt arrowheads and did this with his daughter in his younger years. He enjoyed playing and watching golf and inspired his granddaughter to take up golf and enjoyed fishing with his grandson. Fred also liked to garden and was looking forward to the first cucumber of the season.

He is survived by daughter, Julie (Daniel) Long of Marengo; grandchildren, Daniel Eli and Ashley Loretta; brother, James T. (Connie) Griffith of Marengo.

Preceded in death by wife, Geneva “Sally” (Hilton) Griffith, on Dec. 21, 2003; brother, Robert.

Friends may call today, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Larry Carnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery with military graveside services.
