MOUNT VERNON — John T. Nordyke, 70, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

John was born March 14, 1942, in Knox County to Peter and Faye Geneva (Dunn) Nordyke. He was a 1960 graduate of Danville High School and had spent most of his lifetime in the Knox County area. John was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus. He enjoyed spending time at Pine Hill Lakes, enjoyed fishing and horse races.

Surviving are his wife, Karen (Weekley) Nordyke, whom he married Dec. 9, 1967; daughter, Andrea (Melvin) Gantz of Mount Vernon; son, Bryan Nordyke of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Naomi Gantz and Amy Gantz.

John was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and a son, Kevin John Nordyke.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Tim Overly officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
