MOUNT VERNON — Francis A. “Frank” Meier, 80, of North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Columbus, to the late Girard Anthony and Mary Catherine (Mattingly) Meier. Frank attended St. Leo and St. Charles schools in Columbus before graduating in 1950 from St. Vincent de Paul High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. Frank was employed at American National Can for 40 years. He enjoyed reading, playing golf and watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, but most important to him was the quality time he spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen (DeBoard) Meier; his four sons, Michael (Sheri) Meier of Liverpool, N.Y., James (Darlene) Meier of Zanesville, Brian (Cher) Meier of Mount Vernon and John Meier of Columbus; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Marilu) Meier of Lowellville and James (Virginia) Meier of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Rose Marie Clements of Tacoma, Wash., Alice (Bufford) Latham of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Meier, Dr. Bernard Meier; and a sister, Mary Ellen Manley.

Friends may call on Monday, July 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will follow at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 24, at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, 303 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
