MOUNT VERNON — Florence Gabriellia Lewis, 60, of Mount Vernon, departed this life Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Florence was born Sept. 16, 1951, in Mount Vernon to Andrew and Juanita (Highwarden) Lewis, who preceded her in death in 1998 and 1951, respectively. She was a 1969 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and graduated from Central State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Gabriellia had taught in the Mount Vernon Public School System and retired from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections at London, Ohio, where she had been employed as an Adult Education Teacher for 16 years.
She was a Stewart of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and had served as secretary of the African-American Law Enforcement Agent’s Association.
Surviving are her brother, A. Ron Lewis of Columbus; his son. A. Ron Lewis Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; his daughter, Shani Lewis of Fayetteville, N.C.; and cousins, Regina Prude of Nashville, Tenn., Lois Kebe of Alexandria, Va., Tiffiney M. Wright of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Kanicka Hyle and Cordelia Hyle of Baltimore, Md.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., with Elder Eddie L. Massey and Co-Pastor Gene S. Massey officiating. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery.
