NEWARK — Gerald L. Walton, 78, of Newark, passed away July 24, 2012, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. Casual attire.

Gerald was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Brandon, to the late Stanley S. and Elizabeth (Mason) Walton. He was a retired brick mason, a 50-year member of BAC Local 44, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola Jean (Bell) Walton of Newark; two sons, Randel (Kathy) Walton of Newark and Richard (Deborah) Walton of Mount Vernon; four granddaughters, Riana (Scot) Veatch of Newark, Toni Marie (Chad) Conant of Mount Vernon, Bethany Deluliis of Columbus and Dana (Andrew) Berg of Gulf Shores, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Connor Conant of Mount Vernon; Shayna Green, Hope Potter and Andrew Berg, all of Gulf Shores. He is survived by his brothers, Bradford Walton of Mount Vernon, Seldon (Dottie) Walton of Utica, David (Joanne) Walton of Granville, Richard (Patty) Walton of Newark; his sisters, Donna Jean Neale of Newark, Carolyn Higgins of Mount Vernon, Nancy (Dave) Lacey of Johnstown, Betty (Len) McGirr of Zanesville, Susie (Kenneth) Granger of Ocala, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley.

The Walton family would like to express our deep appreciation to the staffs of Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice; Arlington Nursing Home; Licking Memorial Hospital; Newark Township Emergency Squad and our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and comfort during this difficult time.
