MOUNT VERNON — Grover F. Shrimplin, 77, of Hopewell Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Mount Vernon to the late Gale and Virginia (Carpenter) Shrimplin. Grover worked for TRW as a machine operator and retired in 1997. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles here in Mount Vernon and also the Order of Knights of Pythias in Gambier. Grover enjoyed Saturday night cookouts at his home surrounded by his family and friends. But most of all he loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Debrah Ann Watson and Sherry Jo (John) Huggins, both of Mount Vernon; three sons, Douglas (Cathy) Shrimplin of Marion, Gary (Amy Koelbl) Shrimplin of Mount Vernon, Grover (Conni) Shrimplin Jr. of Mount Vernon; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Norma Cramer, Patricia Grennell, Mary Curtis, Rebecca Smith, Dixie Folden, Victoria Bradshaw, Virginia Shrimplin; and four brothers, John, James, Ronald and Gale Shrimplin Jr.
Besides his parents, Grover was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Jean Shrimplin; and his sister, Ruth Ann Whit.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A memorial service, by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, will follow the calling hours on Sunday. A funeral service will be held Monday at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
