BELLVILLE — After tolerating cancer for 24 years, Betty decided to go home Thursday evening, Aug. 2, passing away in Mansfield MedCentral Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1932, in Poca, W.Va., to Clyde Shawver and Mary (Sanders) Deal. She retired from Therm-O-Disc in 1993.

Betty is survived by her sons, John Thornton and Donald Thornton; daughter, Darlis Horn; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dellamae Murphy and Rosalie Davis; and brother, Eugene Deal.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Boyd Thornton; second husband, Walter Tucker; son, Carl Thornton; sister, Lora Singleton; and brother, James Deal.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Pastor Russell Stanford will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
