HOWARD — Richard L. Doup Sr., age 78, of Mary Street, Howard, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. He was born Nov. 26, 1933, in West Lafayette, Ohio, to the late Earl and Pauline (Apple) Doup. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1987 from the Mansfield Reformatory. He was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and enjoyed his John Deere tractor and motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Proper) Doup; his children, Thomas (Basyon) Doup of Mount Vernon, David Doup of Walhonding, Donald Doup of Howard, Richard L. Doup Jr. of Howard, Teresa Doup of Danville, Rebecca Llewellyn of Gambier and Brenda (Patrick) West of Obetz; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Phyllis) Doup of Bellefontaine and Paul (Marilyn) Doup of Anchorage, Alaska; and a sister, Barbara Thatcher of Danville.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michaela Silliman, and a brother, William Doup.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Amity Cemetery with Pastor Lee Cubie officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Richard L. Doup Sr.
