FREDERICKTOWN — Loretta “Lori” Ackerman-Bechtel, 74, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was born on Nov. 8, 1937, in Ellwood City, Pa., to the late Joseph and Margaret (Petro) Fancsalszki.
In 1959, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from the Indiana University of Pa. and later earned a master’s degree in education from Ashland University. Her greatest fulfillment was being an esteemed mentor and teacher to many; teaching for over 40 years before retiring in June of 2000 from the Fredericktown school system. She proudly served on the Fredericktown and Knox County boards of education; the Education Service Center Board and the Ohio School Board. She was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; Fredericktown Community Development Foundation; the Fredericktown Senior Activity Center; and the Fredericktown Bicentennial committee. She enjoyed her friends in the Westside Club; Red Hat; and Conversation Club. She was a long-standing member of the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church where she served in various positions. She was also a Knox Community Hospital Volunteer. She so cherished the ride with RODEO.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Bechtel; her son, Michael (Deidre) Ackerman of Evergreen, Colorado; daughters, Melisa Ackerman of Dublin; Melana Ackerman of Hilliard; step children, Stephen (Karen) Bechtel of Dublin; Joe (Heidi) Bechtel of Grandview Heights; Todd Bechtel of Austin, Texas; Carol Bechtel of Dublin; grandchildren, Kileigh Ackerman; Evan Bechtel; Sam Schulte; Joe Schulte; Adrienne Bechtel; Adelle Bechtel; Adam Bechtel; Zach Bechtel; Eli Bechtel; Summer Bechtel; and three great-grandchildren, Landon; Layla; and Liam Bechtel.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ackerman; three sisters, Margaret Koch; Irene Fancsalszki; Dorothy Jordan.
Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will also be held at the church on Friday Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. The family will observe a private graveside service in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. Mr. Ted Dingler will be officiating.
