MOUNT VERNON — Ruby Bates Brady, 79, of New Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Helton, Ky., to the late Lawrence and Rose (Wilson) Nantz. Ruby enjoyed hand-making birdhouses, gardening, playing piano, organ and guitar, and most importantly, spending quality time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Charlotte (Richard) Nichols Jr. of Mount Vernon, Sharon (John) Sostmann of Littleton, Colo., H. Daniel Bates of Lee Summit, Mo., and Dennis (Edie) Bates of Westerville; nine grandchildren, Rich (Autumn) Nichols, Melissa Sostmann, Jaime Sostmann, Cassandra Ward Butvilofsky, Michael Ward, April Rhodes, Jon Bates, Angela Cass (Tark) Yeager and McKenna Bates; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce (Bonnie) Nantz of Buckhannon, W.Va., John (Norma) Nantz of Berea, Ky.; two sisters, Evelyn Swarts of Brighton, Colo., Joann (Dave) Ketner of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Bates; her second husband, Edison Brady; two daughters, Ruby Margaret Bates Ward and Rhonda Bates Cass; two brothers, Lowell Nantz, Donald Nantz; and three sisters, Viola Nantz, Carolyn Nantz, Goldie Nantz; and a great-grandson, Richard C. Nichols IV.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
