MOUNT VERNON — Earl Robert Sauder, 96, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012.
Born Nov. 4, 1915, in Akron, he was the son of Dr. O.R. and Martha Steiner, and was adopted by Frank and Edith Sauder, who were kind and loving Christian people. Mr. Sauder was educated in the Seventh-day Adventist school system and was a longtime member of the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was employed by White-Westinghouse and Ford Motor Co. in Mansfield; and then by Cooper Energy Services (formerly Cooper-Bessemer) in Mount Vernon until his retirement in 1978, where he was Vice President of Sales and Engineering. He held three patents and enjoyed farming, building houses and music.
He is survived by three daughters, Marcia Arnold of Rockville, Md., Kathleen Phillips of Fort Myers, Fla., and Janet Ratz of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vilna (Farber) Sauder; his second wife, Esther (Kuckenmeister) Sauder; a daughter, Elaine Kazaka; and a son, Frank Sauder.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, conducted by Pastor Larry Grahn. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
