SAN MATEO, Calif. — William R. (Bill) Bohannan, 83, died Aug. 24, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma, surrounded by his children. Bill joined his wife Jean, parents and siblings.

Born Sept. 9, 1928, in White River, SD, to William H. Bohannan and Rowena Hickey, Bill graduated from Rapid City High School, and enrolled in the Army, proudly serving his country in World War II, where he received the Victory Medal. After discharge, Bill attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, from which he graduated with a degree in engineering in 1952. He then worked for Phillips Petroleum, Union Oil, Arabian American and Cooper Bessemer. While at Cooper Bessemer, Bill met his bride and the love of his life, Jean. In 1964, Bill left Cooper with his new wife and daughters and moved to California where he began an illustrious career with Bechtel; welcoming his son, Bruce, in 1966. While at Bechtel, Bill traveled the world. In 1988, Bill left Bechtel and began consulting with Bohannan Engineering, finally retiring in 1990. Bill was a member of the San Mateo Elks Club, SIRS, the American Petroleum Institute and Transfiguration Episcopal Church. He had an incredible sense of humor, amazing wit, and gave of his time generously and graciously. He was much loved by all who knew him.
