DANVILLE — Erma J. (Mizer) Sweet, 85, Danville, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at the Emeritus at Hillenvale in Mount Vernon. She was born on March 10, 1927, in Danville, daughter of the late William and Beulah (Rahn) Mizer. Erma was born and raised at Willowbrook Farm in Danville. She married Ed Sweet on March 5, 1949. She was a gifted fast-pitch softball player known for her pitching skills.

Erma was a life-long member of the Danville Church of Christ and held various positions in its Ladies Aid Society. Erma also was a member of the Knox County School Board from 1993 through 2007. She also was the reservation chairperson for the Danville Alumni Banquet. Erma took pleasure in playing euchre and was a founding member of the Danville Euchre Club. Erma enjoyed working for the Banbury Lumber Co. for 25-years.

In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband, G. Edward Sweet; and their third son, Dan; a daughter-in-law, Pastor Jan Ahlstrom Sweet; her brothers, Clarence, Claude (infant), Irvin, Lloyd, Harley, Ralph and Bob Mizer; and a sister, Eva Body.

Erma is survived by two sons, the Rev. Douglas Edward Sweet and wife, Ann Edenfield Sweet of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Dr. David B. Sweet and his wife, Irene of Wadsworth; three grandsons, Shaun Sweet and wife Ashley of Lebanon, Brian Sweet and wife May of Wadsworth, Aaron Sweet and fiancé Amanda of San Diego, Calif.; a granddaughter, Megan and husband Matt Vitarella of Wadsworth; and great-grandchildren, Zechariah and Boaz Sweet, and Maria Vitarella. In addition, Erma was an aunt to 19 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Funeral services will be held at the Danville Church of Christ Tuesday at 11a.m., with Evangelist Matt McManaway officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery.
