MOUNT VERNON — Mabel Mizer, 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at the Autumn Health Care in Mount Vernon.
She was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Danville, daughter of the late John and Mina (Stricker) Banbury. Mabel was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, and playing cards, especially euchre.
Mabel is survived by her son, Dan (Linda) Mizer of Groton, N.Y.; daughters, Barbara (Neel) Awwiller of Fredericktown and Connie (Dick) Armstrong of Ashland; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Gault of Ashland; brother, Richard (Emma Jo) Banbury of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Nancy Banbury of Danville and Pearl Banbury of North Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harley J. Mizer, on Jan. 7, 2011; and brothers, Ray and Jack Banbury.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of Mabel’s funeral service at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, 11360 Liberty Chapel Road, Mount Vernon. The Rev. Thom Fowler will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice in Mabel’s memory.
