GAMBIER — David L. Durbin, 67, Gambier, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, Aug. 31, 2012, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 16, 1945, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Paul A. and Margaret (Beal) Durbin. David retired from Rolls-Royce and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He took great pride in being able to work alongside his son, Mike, at Durbin Masonry. He also was proud to call his daughter, Cristi, his personal nurse. David was an avid Ohio State fan and always looked forward to Friday night double date night that he and his wife, Diane, would spend with their friends. He will be missed by all who knew him and be remembered as a man who was always there to lend a helping hand.

David is survived by his wife, Diane (Albert) Durbin, whom he married Dec. 18, 1965; daughter, Cristi Durbin Gates of Mount Vernon; son, David Michael (Donna) Durbin of Centerburg; grandchildren, Amanda Durbin, Mikayla Gates and Anna Durbin; sister, Paddy Boyd of Mount Vernon; brother, Paul “Tommy” Durbin of Gambier; several nieces and nephews; and a canine companion, Maggie.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his faithful canine, Bud.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Sister Jean Welling officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
