MOUNT VERNON — Warren C. McMillan, 89, of Woodside Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Danville, to the late Arthur and Verna (Staats) McMillan. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. He worked as a farmer for many years and retired in 1985 from American National Can. Warren was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and 37-year member of the Monroe-Dan Emmett Grange. He enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was traveling or helping his children build their homes.

He is survived by his wife, Reva (Hubbell) McMillan, whom he married Jan. 19, 1952; four sons, Mark McMillan of Virginia Beach, Va., John D. McMillan of Gambier, Gregory (Mary Williams) McMillan of Howard and Maj. David (Mimi) McMillan of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Sean McMillan of Wilmington, N.C., Daniel and Bryan McMillan of South Korea; three sisters, Kathleen Breneman of Mount Vernon, Martha Thompson of Venice, Fla., and Phyllis Foote of Orlando, Fla.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel McMillan; and a sister, Dorothy Shelley.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor Susan Stevens will be officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Workman Cemetery in Danville.
