MOUNT VERNON — Justus “Charles” Denhardt, 73, of Newark, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon.
He was born Oct. 16, 1938, in Mount Vernon to, Justus Wilbur “Jack” and Donnabelle (Burson) Denhardt.
Charles was the corporate pilot for Shelly Co. in Thornville and retired in 2000 after 26 years of service. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kay (Harstine) Denhardt; daughter, Jill Denhardt-Marietta of Croton; his mother, Donnabelle; stepdaughters, Teresa M. Peters, Wendy Hutchinson and Andrea Seymour; sister, Ellen M. (Don) Denhardt-Petty of Erlanger, Ky.; grandchildren, Payge Penrod, Tyler Cain, Amy and Katie Hutchinson, Shannon Morrison; great-granddaughters, Kayla, Megan and Mariah Morrison; nephew, Jack Petty; niece, Janell Bundy; great-nephews, Nathan Bundy, Gage and Cody Engle.
Charles was preceded by his father, Jack; and a stepson, George Rickus.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kris Santiago officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
