MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie J. Risko, 99, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully Sept.15, 2012, at Emeritus at HillenVale.
She was born May 12, 1913, in Mount Vernon and was the daughter, of the late Howard and Mildred C. (Starr) Tarr.
Marjorie was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and a member of Knox Chapter 236 of the Order of Eastern Star. She graduated from Oberlin College where she earned her degree in early childhood education and taught in Mount Vernon for many years.
Surviving are her two sons, Dr. James H. (Georgene) Risko of Hilton Head, S.C., and Walter N. (Shirley) Risko of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Risko in 2000; a brother, Charles Tarr; her sister, Evelyn T. Watson.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Marjorie will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. George Reed, O.S.I. officiating. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the funeral arrangements for the Risko family.
