FREDERICKTOWN — Roger E. Groseclose, 91, of Miami Avenue, Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Freeland, Md., to the late Walter and Bertie (Dix) Groseclose.

Roger married his wife, Jaunita (Van Reenan) Groseclose on April 3, 1940, in Parisburg, Va. Roger served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and upon completion of his service to his country, he returned home to work for the Naval Gun Factory. In 1952 he and the family moved to Ohio where he took employment with Battelle Institute in Columbus, and Cooper-Bessemer in Mount Vernon as well as farming. After retirement, Roger worked as a carpenter in Ohio and West Virginia.

He was a 65-year member of the Petworth Lodge F&AM in Washington, D.C., and an honorary member of Thrall Lodge of Fredericktown. He was also a member of Ann Hill Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Fredericktown and the Green Valley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; sons, J. Frederick (Shirley) Groseclose of Fredericktown, Richard Groseclose of Marlinton, W.Va. and Barry (Connie) Groseclose of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren, David (Laura) Groseclose of Howard, Linda (Ron) Matthews of Mount Vernon, Jesse (Shirleen) Groseclose of Marlinton, W.Va., Shana Groseclose of Washington, D.C., Amy Groseclose of Morgantown, W.Va., Andy (Angie) Groseclose of Milford, Michael (Jennifer) Groseclose of Evansville, Ind., Adam Groseclose of Columbus, Thomas Groseclose of Mount Vernon and Katie Groseclose of Mount Vernon; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew and Nichole Groseclose of Howard, Ryan and Rachel Matthews of Fredericktown, Olivia, Megan and Henry Groseclose of Milford; and a brother, John (Pat) Groseclose of Jelloway.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Groseclose; four brothers, Harley, William Guy, Charles and Frank Groseclose.

At Roger’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. The Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown is honored to serve the family of Roger Groseclose.
