CENTERBURG — Emma D. Thomen, 77, of Centerburg died Friday morning, Sept. 21, 2012, at her residence.
She was born June 10, 1935, in Blackey, Va., to the late Eram and Bertha (Hagerman) Kennedy. Emma lived in the Centerburg area since 1955 coming from Grundy, Va. She and her husband were owners of various businesses in the area including, Thomen Poultry, Thomen Nursing Home, Thomen Country Shop. Emma loved to cook and was known for her Christmas cutout cookies, cinnamon rolls and candy. Emma passed onto her grandchildren her recipes in a keepsake book for them to enjoy.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wallace “Wally” Thomen, whom she married Aug. 8, 1959, in Bangs; son, Michael (Karen) Thomen of Mount Vernon; daughter, Deb (Stan Brown) Thomen of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Shaunte (Billy) Pohl, Zachary Thomen-Brown, Camille Thomen-Brown. Clarissa Thomen-Brown, Joseph Mastrangelo, Damian Thomen, Michaela Thomen; great-grandchild, Samuel Pohl; sisters, Georgia Kroninger of Mount Vernon, Sue Kennedy of Denver. Colo.
Preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Ernest; sisters, Ethel Davis, Zada Blake, Stella Kennedy.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Monday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Vicky Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery.
