MOUNT VERNON — Robert R. “Bob” Patterson, 77, of Buena Vista Avenue, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 17, 1934, in Mount Vernon, to the late Walter and Lucretia “Creta” (Pembrook) Patterson Sr. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and retired in 1996 after 44 years of employment with American National Can. He was an avid sports fan and devoted Cleveland Indians fan during the good times and bad ones. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte (Pahl) Patterson; his children, Cindy Patterson of Columbus, Randy (Hilary) Patterson of Bellville; two grandchildren, Brandon and Brianna Patterson; brother-in-law, Pete Burgess of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Janet (Pahl) Courson of Mount Vernon, nieces and nephews, Shane Courson, Nathan Courson, Danielle Courson, Jamie Pahl and Chris Pahl.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters, Margene McDowell, Bernadine Burgess, Louise Dauphin, Barbara Patterson and Ellen Hobbs; three brothers, Walter Patterson Jr., Raymond Patterson and William Patterson.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond will be celebrant. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the Mount Vernon Girls Softball or Mount Vernon Little League.
