MOUNT VERNON — Thelma J. Mortine, 91, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in West Lafayette, daughter of the late Sheridan and Nannie (Phillips) Geese.
Thelma was a member of the South Vernon United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, the Harrison Grange, Sow and Hope Garden Club, and NFO. She worked for over 20 years as a poll worker for the Knox County Board of Elections. Thelma won many blue ribbons for her baking at the Knox County Fair.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Wilma (Robert) Neiderhouser of Mount Vernon; son, Dennis Mortine of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jennifer Hedden, Ben Neiderhouser, Andrew Mortine, Shannon Castle, Cody Mortine, Jessica Mortine, and Amanda Mortine; great-grandchildren, Cynthia, Josh, and Chloe Castle; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Mortine.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Mortine; a son, Gary Mortine; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Castle.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. The Rev. Robert L. Alexander will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette.
