MOUNT VERNON — Earl “Tommy” Thompson, 73, of Tucker Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born March 7, 1939, in Mount Vernon, to the late Earl and Helen (Wilson) Thompson. Tommy served in the U.S. Army and worked for Benchmark Cabinets in Fredericktown. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elks Lodge and Loyal Order of the Moose in Mount Vernon. Tommy enjoyed woodworking, mowing, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Dee Bell Thompson; a son, Larry (Sherry) Thompson of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Cheryl (Rick) McCament of Mount Vernon, Tammy (Jim) Neale of Mount Vernon; stepson, David (Jackie) Brown of Mount Vernon; stepdaughter, Dawna Arms of Mount Vernon; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil (Carol) Thompson and Donnie (Molly) Thompson, both of Centerburg; and a sister, Shirley (Bill) Conn of Dallastown, Pa.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Thompson.
Friends may call Tuesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. The family will observe a private burial at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Tommy’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
