MOUNT VERNON — Arthur L. Woods, 83, of Plaza Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 29, 1929, in Knox County to the late Harold and Bessie (Frye) Woods. Art retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose and Amvets Post 95, all of Mount Vernon. Art had served as president of the Knox County Colt Football League and was an active member of the Mount Vernon Chapter of Senior Olympics where he earned numerous medals.

He is survived by his wife, Annemarie (Hausler) Woods, whom he married June 24, 1961; his children, Angelika Krause of Moon Township, Pa., Thomas (Lisa) Woods of Mount Vernon, Debbie (Cliff) Ruggles of Mount Vernon, David Woods of Mount Vernon and Mike (Bonnie) Woods of Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Olive Marie Yocum of Mount Vernon and Ethel (Tom) Vogelsang of Galion.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Woods.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Chaplain Pamela Lamb-Hart will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
