HOWARD — Ralph E. Dunmire Sr., 85, of Howard, went to be with the Lord Oct. 9, 2012.

He was born Jan. 27, 1927, to George and Eva (Kaylor-Purdy) Dunmire. He graduated from Howard High School and then at the age of 18 was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force, where he became a sergeant. After World War II was over, he started his career in Mount Vernon working for Gaumer’s Bakery, which he later bought. Ralph baked pies, cakes and delivered them throughout Mount Vernon.

In 1952, he married Joann Frederick. They then moved to Nashville, Tenn., and attended Treveca Nazarene College. In 1956, their son, Ralph E. Dunmire Jr., was born and was their pride and joy. Ralph and Joann never lost their love for each other and were always there for one another.

In 1957, Ralph was commissioned song evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene. Singing for revival campaigns was the joy of his life. Ralph and his wife and son traveled all over the eastern part of the U.S. winning people to Christ.

Ralph and Joann recently moved back to Howard to be near their son, Ralph (Donna) Dunmire Jr. of Howard; and their two grandsons, Ralph (Jessica) Dunmire III and Brad Dunmire; along with two stepgrandchildren, Jennie and Ryan Horn.

His parents; a brother, Donald Dunmire; his stepfather, Harley Purdy; and a stepbrother, Chuck Purdy, preceded him in death.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Wes Frederick officiating. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Graveside burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Ralph always wanted the best for his family and prayed for God’s guidance for them. Now, we must meet him in Heaven.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene’s Building Fund.
