MOUNT VERNON — Ronald C. “Pops” Blubaugh, 81, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his caring family after a short courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Francis and Hazel (Hays) Blubaugh. Ron was member of Fredericktown Free Will Baptist Church and American Legion. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was an active supporter of Disabled American Veterans. Ron retired from PPG Industries in Mount Vernon and from the maintenance department at the Mount Vernon Public Library. He enjoyed working on Old Tube TVs and painting homes when he was laid off from PPG Industries Ron loved to go fishing, playing cards, reading the Bible, and most of all spending time with his family.

Ron is survived by his sons, Timothy (Margaret) Blubaugh of Mount Vernon and Jon (Sandy) Blubaugh of Columbus; his daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Goodrich of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Misty, Amy, Dustin, Matthew (Valerie), Angie, Nathan, Summer, Derek, Kevin, Drew, Lucas, Leah, Makayla and Layla; great-grandchildren, Christian, Brandon, Caleb, Cheyenne, Logan, Jasper and Braxtyn, who is on the way; sisters, Betty Palmer of Mount Vernon and Marge Kleer of Howard; a special cousin, Arlene Hottinger; and his canine companions, Sable and Lucky.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth N. (McQueen) Blubaugh; sister, Joan Blubaugh; and a granddaughter, Story May Blubaugh.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Aaron Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
