LOUDONVILLE — Paul L. Kauffman, 89, of Loudonville, died Saturday evening, Oct. 20, 2012, in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville.

Paul was born Dec. 26, 1922, in northern Knox County and was the son of Fred and Edna Viola (Baldner) Kauffman.

Paul was very proud to be a second-generation American with grandparents, Peter and Marie Kauffman, emigrating from Grindelwald, Switzerland. Paul was a resident of the Loudonville area all of his life and a 1941 graduate of Loudonville High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Following his military service, he worked for a short time at The Flxible Company as a welder and group leader. For over 20-years he operated Kauffman Frigid Foods until his retirement in 1985. Paul always considered himself a farmer first and businessman second due to his love of his vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. Following his retirement he became an accomplished furniture caner in spite of his extensive traveling and wintering in Florida for many years. Paul was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Rotary Club of Loudonville, where he served as a past president and 50-year member; the Loudonville-Perrysville Athletic Boosters Club where he also served as a past president; Mohican Area Business Association and the Hanover Grange.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Mumper Kauffman, whom he married Sept. 21, 1952; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Lisa Kauffman of Glen Ridge, N.J., and Larry and Linda Kauffman of Loudonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mike Zahn of Bucyrus and Mary and Kim Carr of Loudonville; eight grandchildren, Kirsten (Brad) Jordan, Nate (Chaya) Zahn, Brad (Heather) Carr, Ryan (Jess) Carr, Scott (Mary) Kauffman, Jared Kauffman, Lauren (Richard Beans) Kauffman and David Kauffman; seven great-grandchildren, Brianna, Gavin and Braden Carr, Lily Carr, Olivia, Kathryn and Colin Jordan; one sister, Helen Pifer of London; and one sister-in-law, Louella Kauffman of Danville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold, Carl, Donald and Robert Kauffman; and two sisters, Ruth Kauffman and Jean McFarland.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville, with Rev. Scott Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Loudonville Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
