MOUNT VERNON — After a long and fulfilling life, Bradford S. Walton, of Mount Vernon, lost his battle with cancer Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.

Brad was born east of Brandon, to Stanley and Bessie (Mason) Walton on Nov. 1, 1932. He was a graduate of Utica High School and Kent State University. Brad retired after 25 years as a welding instructor at the Knox County Career Center. He was also a former employee of Cooper Bessemer Corp. in Mount Vernon and Modern Welding in Newark.

Brad loved playing the harmonica at church, The Station Break, several nursing homes and for family and friends. He enjoyed cycling, sledding and building and repairing most anything.

He was a long-time member of Faith Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, where he enjoyed choir, served as an usher, maintenance deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was a member and served for 12 years as President of the Knox County Chapter of Ohio Retired Teachers. Brad also served as a board member of New Hope Industries and was a former member of the American Welding Society, Knox County Barbershop Chorus and the Knox County Jaycees.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51-years, Barbara (Stoyle) Walton, in 2011; his parents, Stanley and Bessie (Mason) Walton; in-law’s, Clarence and Laurel (Roberts) Stoyle; an infant daughter, Kathy Lynn Walton; brother, Stanley Walton and his wife, Linda; brother, Gerald Walton; and brothers-in-law, James Neale and James Stoyle.

He is survived by his three children, Keith (Sandy) Walton of Wichita, Kan., Phil Walton of Lincoln, Neb., and Debbie (Pat) Maloney of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Walton, Nick Maloney, Kelly (Don) O’Hair, and Mason Maloney; brothers and sisters, Donna Jean Neale of Newark; Carolyn Higgins of Mount Vernon; Betty (Len) McGirr of Zanesville; Nancy (Dave) Lacey of Johnstown; Susie (Ken) Granger of Florida, David (Joann) Walton of Newark, Selden (Dottie) Walton of Utica and Richard (Patty) Walton of Newark; sisters-in-law, Jeanie Walton of Newark and Kay Stoyle of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

Brad has made the very special decision to donate his body to The Ohio State University College of Medicine in support of education and research. The family will observe a private service and burial. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Bradford S. Walton.
