NEWARK — A Mass of Christian Burial for Violetta B. “Vi” Varasso, 91, of Newark, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Monsignor Paul Enke and the Rev. Father Michael Gribble officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Vi was born May 1, 1921, in Mount Vernon, to the late Quinto Benedetti and Assunta Ferrini. Vi was a 1938 graduate of St. Vincent de Paul High School in Mount Vernon and attended Catholic University of America. She had been employed with the Mount Vernon News and The Columbus Dispatch. A parishioner of The Church of St. Edward the Confessor in Granville, she was also a member of the P.E.O., Chapter DL, where she had been an officer and committee member. She was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Newark Rotary Club, of which her husband is a member. Vi served on the board of the Licking County Symphony Orchestra. She was a trained concert pianist and was a great supporter of education.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Orville Varasso, whom she married April 11, 1953; four daughters, Carla (John) Babcock of Loveland, Marisa (Larry) Berlin of Lewis Center, Andrea (Tom) Mulisano of Westerville and Michaele (John) Quinn of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren, Kristopher (Kaitlyn) Burgess of Williamsburg, John Quinn of Washington, D.C., Laurel Quinn and Joseph Quinn of Alexandria, Va.; brothers, Quinto Benedetti of Oceanside, Calif., Paul Benedetti of Mount Vernon and Charles Benedetti of Lincolnshire, Ill.; four nieces and 10 nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Benedetti.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 3:45 p.m.
