MOUNT VERNON — Max R. Lawrence, 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away Oct. 28, 2012, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.
He was born March 9, 1925, in New Castle, to the late Lemuel H. and Ollie (Busenburg) Lawrence. Max was a World War II Army veteran and retired from Chattanooga Glass Co. in 1986. He also belonged to the American Legion Post.
Max is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Stoutenburgh) Lawrence; daughters, Virginia S. (Todd) Cochran of Mount Vernon, Connie M. (Jim) Matthews of Dresden; sons, Ronnie D. (Jane) Mealey of Utica, Hilbert D. “Sonny” (Mary) Mealey of Mount Vernon and Donald R. (Pam) Moxley of Fredericktown; sister, Mary Carpenter of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Katelyn, Josh, Larry, Kevin, Jennifer, MaryAnn, Abbey and Nick; along with several great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Don.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Roy and Paul Lawrence; and a sister, Eva Huston.
Graveside memorial services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the services for the Lawrence family.
