BRINKHAVEN — James Molnar, 75, of Brinkhaven, passed away after an extended illness at Hillcrest Haven Percherons Farm in Brinkhaven on Nov. 1, 2012.

He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Cleveland, to James and Elizabeth Molnar. He lived most of his life in North Canton and Ashland before retiring to Hillcrest Haven.

James is survived by his wife, Jean M. Molnar; brother, Richard J. (Sandee) Molnar; sons, James D. (Joell) Molnar, Daniel P. (Melissa) Molnar, Steven E. (Trina) Molnar, Andrew J. (Mary Ellen) Molnar; daughters, Gail Molnar (Brenda Grudek) and Anne (Charles) Lowe; daughters-in-law, Deirdre and Elizabeth Molnar; as well as 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A 1956 graduate of Westfield High School, he earned a Criminal Justice degree from Kent State University in 1974, and a master’s degree in 1988 from Northwestern University, while enjoying a 30-year career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was promoted to lieutenant at the Massillon Post and assigned as post commander at Ashland.

Following his retirement, he served as bailiff at the Ashland Common Pleas Court, as 3rd District Councilman for the city of Ashland and as director of Ashland County Child Support Enforcement Agency. He was a member of the BPOE and Loyal Order of Moose, Pheasants Forever, the Ashland County Pilots Association and owner of Hillcrest Haven Percherons Farm.

A Memorial Mass will be at St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Molnar attributed everything he accomplished in life to his wife, Jean, and to a horseman’s quote that guided his philosophy, “If you want to accomplish something, you will find a way. If you don’t want to accomplish something, you will find an excuse.” He taught us well!
