HOWARD — Irma W. (Bowsher) Umbaugh, 82, of Howard, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. She was a longtime resident of Apple Valley.

She was born April 18, 1930, in Columbus, daughter of the late Charles O. and Irma E. (Wiggins) Bowsher. Irma retired from Big Bear Grocery in Mount Vernon. She was the Sundries Department Manager for many years and was the first woman Big Bear promoted to a department manager position. Irma also worked for Dale C. Davy Marathon Products in Mount Vernon.

Irma is survived by her daughters, Diane (Paul) Centolella, Debby (Tim) Antill, Darlene Jacobson and Laura (Casey) Marcelo; stepchildren, Steven (La Donna) Umbaugh, Kathy (Grant) Coon, Donna Umbaugh; grandchildren, David Frye, Chuck Jacobson, Kelly Centolella, Christopher Antill and Margaret Antill; stepgrandchildren, Candice Umbaugh, Chris Umbaugh, Trevor Coon and Kyle Coon; great-grandchild, Aurora Jacobson.

In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick L. Umbaugh; sister, Jean Smallwood; brother, Charles Richard Bowsher; stepson, Gary Umbaugh; grandchild, Elizabeth Centolella; stepgrandchild, Corey Umbaugh Coon.

In following Irma’s wishes, she was cremated and no services will be held.

In memory of Irma and her love of animals, the family requests that donations be made to the Knox County Humane Society, 400 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
