MARTINSBURG — Donald Dean Ryan, 87, of Martinsburg, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord surrounded by his loving family Nov. 5, 2012, at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Don, a retired, self-employed grocer, was born May 24, 1925, in Fredericktown, son of the late Dwight and Bertha (Hall) Ryan. Don served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Ohio Masonic Lodge 199 for 66 years. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite & Shrine, the Owl Creek Baptist Church, and the Church of Christ in Martinsburg.
Don married Helen Hawkins, Dec. 24, 1947. They shared almost 65 years of marriage. She, survives him; as well as their three sons, Don (Connie) of Johnstown, Ron (Connie) of Gahanna and Tim (Dianne) of Granville; four grandchildren, Kristen (Scott) Miller, Mitch (Jessica) Ryan, Joe Ryan (Rosalia Rivera) and Andrea (Chris) Davis; five great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jake Miller, Jackson and Liam Ryan, and Nicolette Davis; his siblings, Maxine Robison of Martinsburg, Eileen Handwerk of Sparta, Carl (Rowena) Ryan, Utica; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Ryan; a sister, Elizabeth Ryan; and a grandson, Greg Ryan.
The family will receive friends and family Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 126 South St. in Martinsburg, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
