MOUNT VERNON — Helen J. “Wanda” Martin, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Utica, daughter of the late William and Helen (Woods) Coulson. Wanda enjoyed quilting and baking. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4027. In her younger days, Wanda worked as a housekeeper for many families in Utica and Newark. She loved to talk with and encourage many of the people in her life and was a great friend to many of the children she knew. She worked at Reynolds Orchard and in her family’s orchard outside of Utica. She sold peaches from the family orchard in the surrounding communities.
Wanda is survived by her nieces and nephews, Tom Coulson of Martinsburg, Karen Eis of Mount Vernon, Sharon Jewett of Columbus, Lisa Wauthier of Marysville, Helen Spencer of Newark, Donna Patrick of Centerburg and Richard Moreland of Mount Gilead.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence N. Martin; brother, Clyde Coulson; and sister, Norma Moreland.
Wanda chose to donate her body to the Division of Anatomy at The Ohio State University. Her ashes will be buried in Utica at a later date.
