MARYSVILLE — Susan L. (Sears) Roush, 66, of Marysville, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at The Gables Nursing Home following an extended illness, with her loving and devoted family at her side.
She was retired from the North Canton School District.
After graduating from Highland High School, she worked in Washington, D.C., as an FBI stenographer from 1963 to 1964. She then worked in the College of Social Work at OSU until her marriage to her husband, Phil. Following, Sue worked at OSU Marion as a secretary to the Assistant Dean. After moving to North Canton in 1977 and giving birth to her sons, Eric and Andrew, she was a devoted stay at home mother. When her sons started school at Clearmount Elementary, Sue volunteered there in a variety of roles. Eventually, she accepted a paid position as playground monitor. After three years, she became an assistant in a special education classroom; a position she had for four years before moving to Marysville.
In 2001, Sue and her husband moved to Marysville, where she became a volunteer at The Gables Nursing Home for 10 years. Her life and work were guided by her tender heart for children, seasoned citizens and anyone with special needs.
Sue was born Dec. 6, 1945, in Mount Vernon, and grew up in South Bloomfield Township in Morrow County. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Ralph and Lucille (Smothers) Sears; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Sears, and sister-in-law, Susan Sears. She was married Feb. 12, 1972, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Marion to Phillip L. Roush.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Phil; their sons, Eric P. Roush of Cincinnati, Andrew R. Roush, and his wife, Erin, and their children, Owen and Emma, of Sharonville; stepchildren, Christopher A. Roush, and his wife, Susie, and their children, Myles, Austin, Nicholas and Makayla, of Millersburg; Brian D. Roush, and his wife, Michelle, and their children, David and Brittany, of Marysville; brothers, Clyde (Sondra) Sears of Mount Vernon, Dennis Sears of New Albany, David Sears of Apple Valley and Robert (Debbie) Sears of Sparta; an uncle, Ralph (Evelyn) Smothers; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, OH 43040, with visitation Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The Rev. Steve Court will be officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Union County Cancer Society, The Gables, Loving Care Hospice or the donor’s favorite charity in care of the funeral home.
