HEATH — A memorial gathering for Gary Lee “Huck” Simmons, 58, of Heath, will he held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating.
Mr. Simmons passed away Friday, at Autumn Healthcare in Newark.
He was born Aug. 10, 1954, in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Quentin E. and Frances A. (Smith) Simmons.
He was a graduate of Newark High School. Mr. Simmons was a finish carpenter by trade and had been a buyer and sales associate at The Furniture House. He had previously been a co-owner of the Stein Bar. Mr. Simmons was active in the community, as a member of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club and attended the Second Presbyterian Church in Newark. His interests included classic cars, drag racing and boating, snowmobiling on Buckeye Lake, traveling with his family to beach destinations.
Surviving are a son, Taylor Simmons of Newark; daughters, Sheridan (Timothy) Figgins, Sarah Simmons both of Newark; brother, Wade (Jill) Gillespie of Newark; a sister, Barbara Simmons Spring of Newark; a grandchild, Kennedy Figgins; and the mother, of his three children, Jane Ford Simmons of Newark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Edward Gillespie; and a sister, Tina A. Burchard.
