GAMBIER — W. Nicholson “Nick” Houston, 81, of Gambier, passed away Nov. 21, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Bellaire, to the late Lawrence P. and Esther (Nicholson) Houston.
Nick was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He retired from teaching in 1985, from Mount Vernon Schools. Nick was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 60 years, Agnes (Vanek) Houston; his children, William Nicholson Houston Jr. of Gambier; Tom Houston of Barre, Mass.; Barbara (Daniel) Donegan of Howard; John Houston of Gambier; a brother, Lawrence Patrick (Sandra) Houston Jr. of Greenville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces; and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by sisters, Jane McCardel; Barbara Houston; and a grandson. Caleb.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 11a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. David Kendall-Sperry officiating. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the arrangements for the Houston family.
