HOWARD — Lydia Mae (Hochstetler) Stoltzfus, 79 years, seven months, and 22 days, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 5, 2012, at her residence in rural Howard, where she had lived the past six years.

Lydia was born April 13, 1933, in Nappanee, Ind., the daughter of the late Levi R. and Tillie (Schmucker) Hochstetler. On July 21, 1983, she married Nicholas Stoltzfus and he died Oct. 18, 2004. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and she remained faithful until her death.

In 1969, she moved to Honduras to work in a children’s home, and it was there she adopted two boys, her sons, John Mark (Lisa) Hochstetler of Holmesville, and Robert Hochstetler of the home.

She is also survived by one daughter, Millie (Joe) Eicher of Dixon, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 10 brothers, Melvin (Esther) Hochstetler of Campbell Hill, Ill., Elmer (Mary) Hochstetler of Belle Center, Jonas Hochstetler of Bremen, Ind., Edward (Katherine ) Hochstetler of Danville, Edwin (Emma) Hochstetler of Howard, Levi Jr. (Betty) Hochstetler of Goshen, Ind., Rudy (Carrol) Hochstetler of Milford, Ind., Lamar (Elizabeth) Hochstetler of Nappanee, Ind., Raymond (Fannie Mae) Hochstetler of Butler and Moses Lee Hochstetler of Nappanee, Ind.; two sisters, Mary (Ura) Chupp and Esther (Lester) Helmuth, all of Nappanee, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Esther Hochstetler; and many nieces and nephews.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, John Henry Hochstetler; three infant brothers, Ervin, Mervin and Gilbert Hochstetler; a sister-in-law, Amanda Hochstetler; and a grandson, Cephas Eicher.

Funeral services will Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Ivan Miller home, 20460 Nunda Road, Butler, with Nelson Kauffman officiating. Burial will follow in Yoder Cemetery, Brown Township, Knox County. Visitation will be held at the Edwin R. Hochstetler home, 19351 Nunda Road, Howard, beginning Thursday at 2 p.m. and all day Friday.
