MOUNT VERNON — Margaret G. Shira, 89, of Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
She was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Mount Vernon, to the late Edmond and Grace (Mills) Burke.
Margaret was employed as a secretary at Kenyon College for many years. She was a member of the Knox Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon. Margaret enjoyed being in her garden or traveling with friends, but most important was the quality time she spent with her family.
She is survived by a son, Terry (Pamela) Shira of Chesterfield, Mich.; a daughter, Bonnie Clayborne of Dublin; six grandchildren, Peter Shira, Matthew Shira, Stephanie Fowler, Brandi Pierce, Chad Clayborne and Renee Shira; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Beckley of Mount Vernon and Alma Lybarger of Mount Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Shira; two brothers, Arthur and Jack Burke; three sisters, Edna Kaltenbach, Helen Massa and Irene Walden.
The family will observe a private graveside service. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Margaret G. Shira.
Memorial contributions in Margaret’s name may be made to Odyssey Hospice of Columbus.
