MOUNT VERNON — Annabelle Cleaves, 94, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon.
She was born April 17, 1918, in London, Ohio, to Pearl and Florence (Swaney) Shipley. Annabelle was the owner-operator of B.W. Cleaves Tire Co. in Mount Vernon for many years, and she received numerous business awards over the years.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. She served as a Cub Scout Den Leader; and among her many interests were gardening, cooking, refinishing antiques and she was an accomplished seamstress. Annabelle enjoyed her morning ritual of feeding the squirrels and birds at home, but most important to her was the quality time she spent with her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Karen (Lou) Novak of Mansfield, Mary Lowe of Mount Vernon and Rebecca (Sandor) Shapery of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Jill (David) Weidner, Julie (Frank) Zalar, Tim (Maria) Lowe, Bethany (Peter) Burke, Scott Cleaves and Kellie Hedrick; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Annabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard William Cleaves; son, William S. Cleaves; brother, Leland Shipley; and sisters, Irene Shipley, Mary Jane Dennehy and June Miller.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 303 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
