MOUNT VERNON — Loretta S. Westerheide, 78, of Mount Vernon, died peacefully at home Dec. 15, 2012, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
She was born in Carthegena, Ohio, on April 22, 1934, to the late Adolph and Theresa (Wuebker) Severt. Loretta was a 1952 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Mary’s, Ohio. She was the proud legal secretary for Ed Noble Esq. in St. Mary’s when she met and married Robert L. Westerheide on June 25, 1960. She moved with Bob to St. Louis, where he was enrolled in St. Louis College of Medicine. She found employment with a law firm in St. Louis, and was responsible for typing the will of August Busch III. Her proudest moment was when she was presented with her Ph.T. Degree: Pushing your husband through upon medical school graduation.
First and foremost, Loretta was a dedicated mother who nurtured eight children by example. Her other loves were dancing and bowling. She and Bob were very active in Mount Vernon Town Club, serving as chairpersons, and Loretta was a proud member of the 200 Club at Colonial Lanes for bowling consecutive 200 point games. Loretta was also very active in the Mount Vernon CCL (Child Conservation League) chapter, and the Mount Vernon Garden Club, enjoying cultivating beautiful gardens in and around her home.
Loretta was involved in the community serving as secretary for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 332 committee. She also enjoyed working at First-Knox National Bank as a loan secretary, as well as serving as office manager for Westerheide Surgery and Oncology Inc. Loretta was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and lead supporter of the Right to Life Society in Mount Vernon.
Loretta is survived by her seven children, Ronald (Jennifer) Westerheide, Michael (Shari) Westerheide, Edward (Jennifer) Westerheide, Linda (Mark) Musgrave, Kenneth (Kristine) Westerheide, Sharon (Marcus) Mathieu and Betty Westerheide; grandchildren, Matthew (Mallory) Westerheide, Therese Westerheide, Marie (Jaime) Aleman, Angela Westerheide, Monica Westerheide, Elizabeth Westerheide, Nicholas Musgrave, Andrew Musgrave, Katherine Musgrave, Jackson Westerheide, Lauren Westerheide, Connor Westerheide, Joseph Westerheide, Ashley Westerheide, Bryanna Mathieu, Sabrina Mathieu, Julian Mathieu; great-grandchild, Micah Westerheide; one brother, David Severt; and one sister, Sarah Dotson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Robert L. Westerheide; and one son, James R. Westerheide.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A Rosary Service will follow the calling hours at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at noon at St. Vincent de Paul Church 303 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
