MOUNT VERNON — Charles L. Baldwin, 85, of Westwood Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

Charles grew up on a farm in Green Valley with his four sisters, Doris Shuff, Anna Bartlett, Edith Thompson and Mary Ray. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1943. While attending high school, Charles met and fell in love with Charlotte Virginia (Wright). They were married Aug. 25, 1946. Charles continued working on the farm with his father until 1962, when he entered the insurance business with Don Endsley. The Insurance Agency later became the Charles L. Baldwin Insurance Agency. Upon retirement in 1992, Charles and Virginia continued living on Tucker Road in Mount Vernon. He was involved in community service in Knox County with the Elks Club, Moose Lodge and the Lyons Club where he served as past president. Charles was also a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church.
He was an avid golfer (5 holes in one), and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to boat on Lake Erie with family and friends. The family considered Charles a master gardener and he would share the fruits of his labor with his clients at the insurance agency. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn and splitting firewood with his wife.
“Chuck and Ginny?” enjoyed 66 wonderful years together. They enjoyed their grandchildren, Kim Coe of Howard, Keith Conkle of Huntington, W.Va., Aaron Baldwin of Phoenix, Ariz.; and great-grandchildren, Cara Conkle and Linsey Conkle.
