FREDERICKTOWN — L. Glenn Newton, 83, of Fredericktown, passed away Dec. 30, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He was born July 15, 1929, in Howard, to the late Gerald D. and Bonnie (Strouse) Newton. Glenn was a 1947 Howard High School graduate where he lettered fours years in basketball. He attended the Howard Church of Christ; and loved sports, golfing, hunting and especially fishing at Knox Lake and Lake Erie. Glenn passed this love and passion onto his son, Jim; and grandson Travis.

Glenn was retired from American National Can after 45 years with the company and during those 45 years he never missed a day of work! He was a U.S. Korean War Army veteran who served in the 7th Division, 48th Battalion Field Artillery attached to the 32nd Infantry Battalion. Glenn was a devoted man to his God, family and the country he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (Vickroy) Newton; a daughter, Ann M. (Alan) Divelbiss of Fredericktown; a son, James R. Newton of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Travis, Ashton, Tyler, Trey Divelbiss and Caitlyn and Jacob Newton; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Kai Divelbiss.

Glenn was preceded in death by his sister, Yvonne Lemasters.

In keeping with Glenn’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the arrangements for the Newton family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fredericktown EMS and Fire Department.
