MANSFIELD — Virginia A. Blizzard, 101, lifelong resident of Mansfield, Ohio, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Autumn Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Born Sept. 30, 1911, in Bucyrus, she was the daughter of Charles L. and Melinda (Craner) Buck. A registered nurse, she had worked for various places including hospitals, doctors’ offices and industries. She was a 76-year member of First English Lutheran Church, a 76-year member of Ruth Chapter Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Grotto Auxiliary and a 35-year Red Cross volunteer. She enjoyed boating and fishing, and also truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially playing cards with them.
She is survived by a son, Donald T. (Carolyn) Blizzard of Mount Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Karen Blizzard of Port Clinton; two granddaughters, Linda (William) Rodgers of Hilliard and Kathy (Geoff) Falter of Delaware; great-grandchildren, David Rodgers, Mark Rodgers, Jill Rodgers, Mitchell Fanok, Megan Fanok and Maiya Falter; a nephew, Marvin Ulmer of Richmond, Va.; and grand-nephews, Charles, James and Randy Buck of the Bucyrus area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Blizzard; a son, David E. Blizzard; and a grandson, John Blizzard.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, conducted by the Rev. Paul L. Larson. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call prior to the service at the funeral home, from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or First English Lutheran Church Regular Endowment Fund.
