MOUNT VERNON — Kenneth C. “Ken” Byerly, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Jan. 8, 2013, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

He was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Brookville, Pa., to the late William and Ethel (Huffman) Byerly. Ken was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church. He served as a past president for the Kiwanis Club and the Mount Vernon Country Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beverly A. (Sowers) Byerly; three sons, Neal (Patti) Byerly of Columbus, Allen (Gentiana) Byerly of Houston, Texas, and Larry (Susan) Byerly of Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Marlene) Byerly, and a sister, Jean (Dean) Anthony, both of Brookville, Pa.

Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at Gay Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Denise Marikis officiating. Friends may call Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the funeral services for the Byerly family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ken’s name to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Knox County.
