DANVILLE — Carmen E. (Hinger) Rice, 83, of Nashville Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born June 27, 1929, in Mount Vernon, to the late George and Dorma (Biggs) Hinger. She was a 1947 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, the Matron of the Knox County Jail from 1965-69, and the Tax Administrator for the Village of Danville for over 20 years. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a charter member of Chapter Y of the Goldwing Road Riders Association, riding in all 48 contiguous states and every Canadian province except Newfoundland. She was a member of the Danville Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, G. Eugene Rice of Danville, whom she married May 6, 1949. Also surviving are a daughter, Marcia Rice of Mount Vernon; a son, Michael (Nancy) Rice of Danville; a granddaughter, Tara Rice of Lancaster; a sister, Donna (Wayne) Francis of Marietta; and a sister-in-law, Mary Sue Dawson of Howard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Hinger; a sister and her husband, Elizabeth and Herbert Horn; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Rice; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Dawson.

Per Carmen’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Following a private family viewing, the public is invited to a graveside service beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Workman Cemetery in Danville, with Stan Ratliff officiating. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements. Visit
