TRAIL CREEK, Ind. — Richard Lee Bowden, 72, of Trail Creek, Ind., passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at his home in Trail Creek with his family by his side.
Private service will be held with burial at a later date in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Richard was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Lakeville, Ohio, to the late John and Carmen (Cookman) Bowden.
Surviving is his wife Betty (Hefner) Bowden; one daughter, Angela (Brian) Kniola; one grandson, Jerrod Kniola; special nephew whom he helped raise after his father died, Marine Staff Sgt. Richard L. Hefner II, and his wife, Donna, and children, Zanna, Ella and Paxton; one brother, Robert (Sharon) Bowden, and their daughters, Beth Whitson and Heather Kraft of Mansfield,; half brother, Carl Victor Berger of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is one sister, Carolyn; and two brothers, Ed and Jack Bowden.
Dick worked for Allied Mineral Products of Columbus, Ohio, and retired in 2004 after 13 years of service as a senior steel industry service representative.
Dick enjoyed playing euchre at the Michigan City Senior Center, and loved camping and the family reunions. He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
Memorials may be made to Franciscan Hospice or to the Michigan City Senior Center.
