MOUNT VERNON — Ruth Joan Lumm, 81, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon under the care of Hospice of Knox County.

Joan was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Vannatta, to Welling and Ruby McDaniel, she graduated from Granville High School with the class of 1950. She attended Defiance College, where she met Edward Lumm. They married on Sept. 9, 1952, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage prior to Ed’s death Aug. 28, 2009.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Fran Lumm of Seattle, Wash.; cousin’s, Larry and Jane Cushing; sister-in-law, Kay Hayes; niece, Pam Martin; and nephew, Wayne McDaniel.

Besides her parents, and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Don McDaniel.

Joan was an avid reader, tender hearted friend and good neighbor. She and Ed had a passion for travel, having visited almost every state park in the United States.

Private burial services will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in La Grange, Ind.
