FREDERICKTOWN — James G. McMahon, 73, of Shipley Road, Fredericktown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Mount Vernon to the late Robert and Glenna (Mauler) McMahon. James was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legion in Mount Vernon, the Marine Corps League and the Overcomers Christian Church here in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed fishing, fast cars, his yard work, watching old Westerns and semi-trucks. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-62. But most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Susan (Ferrell) McMahon; his daughter, Suzanna McMahon of Fredericktown; his grandson, Joseph James McMahon; his brother, Don (Sue) McMahon of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Lisa Highman of Mount Vernon, Lee Ann McMahon of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Richard McMahon.

Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Overcomers Christian Church, 998 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A service will follow beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Joe Overholt officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
