MOUNT VERNON — William Fred Lightsey, 91, of Birdie Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 24, 1921, in Hampton County, S.C. to the late William and Fannie Mae (Beal) Lightsey.

Fred moved to Ohio six years ago to be with his daughter. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia before earning a master’s degree in Forestry from Duke University.

Fred retired from Simonds Inc. at 70 where he served as regional sales manager for the eastern half of the United States. He was an independent pilot and enjoyed playing golf in his free time. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” (Mark) Hunnicut of Howard; a son, Bill (Tiny) Lightsey of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Maddie, Faith and Dominic; special friends, Susie and Tom Lind of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Lightsey.

The family will observe a private service at a later date.

The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of William Fred Lightsey.
